Jeff Kingwell is in the National Earth Observation Group of Geoscience Australia, where he leads remote sensing projects for Forest and Water Monitoring. He has a multi-decadal career in managing space projects, with highlights including arranging the launch of the experimental microsatellite FedSat from Japan in; researching rocket launch weather forecasting methods at Tanegashima Space Center; and working in the United Nations’ Regional Space Applications Programme in Bangkok. He has served in the Secretariat and Working Groups of the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites, is a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society and a Member of the Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society. His special interests include the concept of public good spatial information as part of the global science commons, and space programmes in the Asia-Pacific region. Jeff holds degrees in physics, remote sensing and information science.
