Marcia S. Smith has spent four decades in the space policy field. For most of those years, she was a space policy specialist for the Congressional Research Service, part of the legislative branch of the U.S. Government that provides objective, non-partisan analysis exclusively to the Members and committees of the United States Congress. Subsequently she served as Director of the Space Studies Board and Director of the Aeronautics and Space Engineering Board of the National Research Council, the operating arm of the U.S. National Academies. She now has her own consulting practice, Space and Technology Policy Group, and is founder and editor of SpacePolicyOnline.com. A full bio and list of her publications is available on that website.
She is a past Trustee of the International Academy of Astronautics, past Vice President of the International Institute of Space Law, and a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) as well as the American Astronautical Society (AAS).
