Professor Alifanov is Scientific Director of the Aerospace School (since 2013) and Head of the Space System Department (since 1990) of the Moscow Aviation Institute (National Research University) – MAI. He is also Director General (since 1990) of the International Center for Advanced Studies “Cosmos” (ICAS Cosmos) and President (since 2008) of the Russian Aviation and Space Industry Scientific Innovation Educational Complex (RASSIEC). From 1987 to 2012 he has been Dean of the MAI Aerospace School.
Alifanov is member of the RAS Council on space (since 1994), Chairman of the Expert Council on Aviation, Rocket and Space Technology of Supreme Certifying Commission in the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia (since 2002), member of Presidium of the Roscosmos Scientific Council (since 1996).
Corresponding member (since 2000) of the RAS, full member (since 1992) and Vice-President (since 1995) of the Russian Academy of Cosmonautics. Academician ((since 1993) and member of the Board of Directors (2004 to 2009) of the International Academy of Astronautics, Vice President (2001 to 2004) of the International Astronautical Federation. Member the Honours & Awards Committee of the IAF and IAF / IAA / IISL Advisory Committee on History (since 2010).
Among his awards the USSR State Prize, the Prizes of the President and the Government of Russia, the.Malin Medal (1992) and.the Emile Prize of the International Astronautical Federation. Author and co-author of more than 400 scientific publications, including 11 books, 3 encyclopedias.
