Excellent choice of topic by the RAES for this year’s conference. I hope to attend myself, but also will be looking for someone to review the event for Space Policy–pleaseĀ email me if you’re interested!

Registration isn’t open quite yet–I’ll update this blog once it is…

From the RAES website:

TUESDAY 02 JULY

Space Traffic Control

Further details and a full programme for this Space Traffic Control Conference will be available shortly.

Space debris is a man-made threat to the continued use of space for commerce, science, exploration and security.Ā  The threat has manifested itself in accidental damage to, and even destruction of, objects in space, as well as requiring increasingly regular avoidance manoeuvres by threatened satellites.

This conference will bring together experts in the field to discuss the evolution of the threat, the implications for the various stakeholders and the actions that can be taken to resolve the situation. The conference is timed to inform the community about ongoing political initiatives and to encourage informed participation in those initiatives. The choice of London as the conference venue is designed to ensure maximum participation by stakeholders from the financial world ā€“ both insurance and banking – since they have the potential to quantify in financial terms the scale of the threat and thus complement the more highly publicised political and technical initiatives.

The speakers (both civil and military) will include space lawyers and financiers, public sector space officials, and representatives from the space industry and space academia.

In addition, there is a range of space related audio available via the Society podcast including, ‘Curiosty, The Next Mars RoverĀ and ‘Europe’s Human Space Flight Programme’.
